Assam: First-ever marathon race held in Dhubri

To promote awareness among numerous social concerns such as road safety, addiction treatment, and beti padhao beti bachao, the Dhubri district host the first-ever 'Dhubri Marathon-2024' on February 11, 2024.


The organisers of the marathon race informed that about 500 competitors from several northeastern states compete in the three divisions of 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km marathon race.


Nitya Binod Wari, Additional Deputy Commisioner Dhubri, told reporters that the marathon race is a unique initiative to promote health and fitness among the people of Dhubri and the neighbouring districts.


"We are organising this marathon race to make people aware of the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyle. We also want to highlight some of the pressing issues that affect our society, such as drug abuse, female education, female empowerment, and road safety. We hope that this event will inspire and motivate the people to take positive steps towards these causes," ADC, Wari said.


Various government departments, including the Dhubri district administration, the Dhubri district Transport Department, and the Dhubri Sports Department including CRPF and BSF personnel have extended their support and cooperation for the successful conduct of the marathon race.


On the occasion were Dhubri Municipal Board Chairman Dr. Debamoy Sanyal, representatives from Dhubri Medical College and Hospital Authority, the Dhubri District Sports Department, the Dhubri District Transport Department, and other departments of the Dhubri District Administration.
