Assam: Fish worth lakhs poisoned in Bongaigaon

Fish worth lakhs of rupees have reportedly died due to poisoning in Bongaigaon district, Assam. The incident took place in a pond at Baraisala under the jurisdiction of Meresar police station, raising concerns among local authorities and residents.

The pond belongs to Shamsul Sikdar, a local resident who was targeted by unknown perpetrators who allegedly poisoned the water during the night. This act has resulted in the mass death of fish, causing significant financial losses to Sikdar and highlighting the need for swift action to address such incidents.

Upon receiving information about the poisoning and fish slaughter, the police have launched an investigation into the matter.

"At first we thought the fishes died because of a shortage of water, but after sometime it was seen that all the fishes in the pond came floating on the surface. The packet on which the poison was carried was found lying near the pond. It was realized later that someone at night had poisoned the pond", a local resident claimed while speaking to the media.

While Shamsul has requested authoritative help for his loss the incident has sparked outrage among the local community, with many expressing shock and condemnation over the deliberate poisoning of the pond and the resulting loss of valuable fish resources.
