Assam: Flash floods hit Dudhnoi; embankment breach causes chaos

Torrential rainfall caused the embankment of the Dudhnoi River to suddenly breach on Saturday night, unleashing flash floods that submerged several villages in the area. The floodwaters, which surged from Meghalaya, inundated the communities of Nandeswar and Bamunpara in Matia.

Within just 30 minutes, homes were submerged as water rushed over the Nandeswar-Daranggiri PWD road, leading to the washing away of a culvert on the Daranggiri-Nandeswar PWD road. Transportation along this critical route has been rendered impossible, stranding many villagers.

Authorities have mobilized in response to the disaster, with revenue circle officers and administrative personnel already on-site to assess the situation. The police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel are also present, prepared to assist those affected by the sudden and devastating floods.
