Assam floods: ‘Devastation is massive, but CM is on the ground,’ says Pijush Hazarika

Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika on August 3 assured that the state government will rebuild the flood-ravaged villages in Sivasagar and other severely affected areas, following Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's visit to assess the extensive damage.

Describing the situation as one of massive devastation, Hazarika said the Chief Minister has assured affected residents that the damaged villages will be reconstructed and restored within a short period, although the rehabilitation process may take some time as flood conditions continue in parts of the state.

"It is a huge devastation, but the Chief Minister has come and assured that these villages will be rebuilt. I am confident this will be done within a very short period. It will take some time because the devastation is still continuing," Hazarika said.

The minister also said the Assam government has started providing financial assistance to flood-affected families. According to him, beneficiaries in four flood-hit districts have received the first instalment of Rs 15,000, while an additional Rs 10,000 will be disbursed after seven days as part of the relief package.

The state government has been carrying out relief and rehabilitation measures across flood-affected districts as thousands of families continue to recover from one of Assam's worst floods in recent years.
