Assam Floods: Kaliabor farmers wade through knee-deep waters to salvage partially ruined crops
The western region of Kaliabor, including villages such as Shivsthan, Bachelimari, Garhguri, Khalaiati, and Misamukh Palm, is facing a severe crisis as floods have submerged hundreds of acres of agricultural land, leaving farmers struggling to survive.
The recent floods have wreaked havoc on the region’s agriculture, with vast expanses of farmland still underwater.
Desperate to salvage whatever they can, many farmers have resorted to harvesting their partially ruined vegetables while wading through knee-deep waters. This effort, however, is only a small consolation in the face of overwhelming losses.
In a cruel twist, the floods have also opened the door for exploitation.
Middlemen and unscrupulous traders have taken advantage of the dire situation, purchasing the flood-affected produce at significantly lower prices.
This has further compounded the farmers’ misery, forcing them to accept meager payments to avoid total financial collapse.
