Assam floods: Sivasagar innovator’s solar charging stations keep flood-hit villages connected

As floodwaters begin to recede across Upper Assam, thousands of people in several affected villages continue to face damaged homes, disrupted transportation and prolonged power outages.

With electricity supply yet to be restored in many areas, keeping mobile phones charged has emerged as a major challenge for flood-hit residents, limiting their ability to contact family members, access emergency services and receive important updates.

Amid the crisis, Sivasagar-based young innovator Abhijeet Dowarah has introduced portable solar-powered mobile charging stations to help affected communities remain connected.

Using his own resources and technical expertise, Dowarah has installed the solar charging facilities in around 10 flood-affected villages across Sivasagar district. The stations allow residents to charge their mobile phones free of cost at a time when power supply remains disrupted in several areas.

The initiative has received widespread appreciation from local residents, many of whom said the charging stations have provided crucial support during the ongoing flood crisis.

For several villagers, the facilities have helped restore communication with relatives and enabled them to receive updates and access essential services despite prolonged electricity outages.

Dowarah, known for developing innovative devices aimed at addressing everyday challenges, said the initiative was intended to provide practical assistance to communities struggling in the aftermath of the floods.

As flood-affected villages continue their recovery, the solar-powered charging stations have emerged as a source of support and hope, demonstrating how locally driven innovation can make a meaningful difference during a disaster.
