Assam: Football match turns violent as players, supporters clash in Cachar village, several injured

A football match in Assam’s Cachar district turned violent after a disagreement over a referee’s decision escalated into a physical clash between players and supporters of the two teams, leaving several people injured. The incident, which took place at Sripur village under Katigorah, was captured on mobile phone cameras by spectators.

According to reports, a local football tournament was being organised by residents of Sripur. Trouble broke out during a match between the Sripur football team and the Kalinagar football team following a dispute over a decision made by the referee.

The disagreement initially involved the referee and players but soon escalated as supporters from both teams joined the confrontation. A physical altercation subsequently broke out at the football ground, triggering chaos among players and spectators.

Several people from both sides sustained injuries in the clash and were later admitted to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The situation was eventually brought under control after prominent local residents intervened and attempted to pacify those involved.

Videos recorded by spectators on their mobile phones reportedly captured portions of the confrontation at the football ground. Further details regarding the number of people injured and any police action in connection with the incident were not immediately available
