Assam forest department seizes illegal Sal timber worth over Rs 2 lakh in Bongaigaon
The Forest Department carried out an operation against illegal timber traders in Abhayapuri of Assam’s Bongaigaon district and seized illegal sal timber worth over Rs 2 lakh, officials said on May 3.
According to sources, the operation was conducted at Bamungaon in Abhayapuri, where a quantity of illegal Sal timber was found abandoned along the roadside. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a Forest Department team launched the raid under the leadership of the Abhayapuri Range Forest Officer.
During the operation, the team recovered and seized the illegal timber, estimated to be worth more than Rs 2 lakh in the market.
Officials stated that the seized Sal timber has been kept in the custody of the Abhayapuri Range Forest Office for further legal procedures and investigation.
