Assam forest guard killed in Kaziranga's rhino attack laid to rest in Nagaon

The body of forest guard Sahab Uddin was brought to his home in Shimuluati village under Juria in Nagaon district on February 16, drawing large numbers of mourners and forest officials.

Sahab Uddin died after being attacked by a rhinoceros while on duty at an elephant camp under the Bardalani Forest Camp in the Kohora range of Kaziranga National Park. He had been posted at the camp as part of routine forest protection duties when the incident occurred.

Family members, colleagues and villagers gathered at his residence as his body arrived, paying their final respects. The atmosphere remained subdued as residents stood in solidarity with the bereaved family.

Forest department officials confirmed that Sahab Uddin was carrying out official duties at the time of the attack. His death has once again highlighted the risks faced by frontline forest staff who work in close proximity to wild animals to protect protected areas and wildlife.

Local residents described him as a dedicated staff member committed to his responsibilities. Authorities are expected to provide assistance to the family as per government provisions for personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty.

Sahab Uddin is survived by his family members, who now face an uncertain future following the loss.
