A wild elephant's distress calls echoed through the night after it fell into at No 2 Balijan Kathonibasti in Morangi, Golaghar district in Assam on November 16.
The elephant, part of a herd that had ventured into the area under the cover of darkness, fell into the pit and began crying out for help.
Forest department officials, responding swiftly, worked tirelessly for several hours to free the stranded animal.
With the assistance of a JCB machine, the team successfully completed the rescue operation, bringing relief to both the officials and local residents who had gathered anxiously at the scene.
