Assam: Former AASU leader Shankarjyoti Baruah detained in Duliajan over assault allegations

Former General Secretary of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Shankarjyoti Baruah, was detained by police in Duliajan on Monday in connection with an alleged physical assault on a petrol pump employee.

According to officials, the incident took place within the Duliajan area of Dibrugarh district. Baruah was taken into custody for questioning after preliminary evidence suggested his involvement in the altercation.

Before being brought to the Duliajan Police Station, Baruah was taken to a local medical facility for a routine health check-up, as per standard police procedure. He is currently being interrogated by law enforcement officers as part of the ongoing investigation.

The police have not released further details on the nature of the altercation or the extent of the injuries sustained by the victim. Authorities have stated that the investigation is in its initial stages and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
