Assam: Former MLA Aziz Ahmed Khan resigns from AGP after party extends support to Waqf Bill

Aziz Ahmed Khan, former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the South Karimganj (Sribhumi) constituency and State General Secretary of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), has officially resigned from the party. His resignation comes after the party extended support to the proposed amendment to the Waqf Board Bill.

Addressing the media at a press conference held in Nilambazar, Khan announced his departure from the AGP, citing the directives of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board as a key influence in his decision. Alongside him, approximately 300 party workers from the South Karimganj region also tendered their resignations.

Khan clarified that he is not currently aligning himself with any political party and intends to consult with constituents in South Karimganj (Sribhumi) before making any future political commitments.

He confirmed that a formal resignation letter has been sent to the AGP party president.
