Assam: Four Bangladeshi girls pushed back across border via Dhubri

Railway Police personnel at New Bongaigaon Railway Station have detained four Bangladeshi girls who allegedly entered India illegally through the India-Bangladesh border and were later pushed back via Dhubri’s Golakganj sector.

According to police sources, the girls were reportedly brought into India by traffickers under the false promise of lucrative job opportunities. Preliminary findings indicate that a broker received nearly ₹1.5 lakh to facilitate their illegal entry into Indian territory. The police believe the victims were being transported to an undisclosed location for exploitation in immoral activities.

The four detainees have been identified as:
* Sumaiya Akhter Tasmiya of Shariatpur village, Madaripur district
* Suhana Khatun Akhi of Maligachar village, Pabna district
* Abida Chowdhury Misti of Baligaon, Gazipur district
* Misti Shirina Akhter Faria of Baipara Ranikhong village, Netrokona district

Officials suspect the involvement of an organized trafficking ring operating between Bangladesh and India. The victims have been placed under protective custody as the authorities continue their interrogation.

A case has been registered under relevant legal provisions. Meanwhile, efforts are on to trace and arrest the broker and other members of the trafficking network responsible for this operation. The incident underscores persistent vulnerabilities along the international border, where traffickers frequently target young women with deceptive employment promises.
