Assam: From militancy to mastery, Mainaguri village emerges as 'Weavers' Hub'

Mainaguri village, located around 50 km from Kokrajhar town in Assam's Kokrajhar district, has undergone a remarkable transformation from being militancy-hit to becoming a thriving hub of weavers. Situated near the Indo-Bhutan border, the village is now renowned as a 'Weavers Village,' symbolizing resilience and progress.

The village, home to 66 families predominantly from the Rabha tribe community, has seen significant changes in recent years. Not long ago, Mainaguri grappled with the challenges of militancy, affecting its peace and prosperity. However, concerted efforts and initiatives have turned the tide, ushering in a new era of development and economic growth.

Elisha Rabha, a resident, talking to ANI, reflects on the positive changes, stating, "...Earlier, there was this (militancy problem), but now we are living in a peaceful environment and we are happy. The income has also increased." This sentiment echoes the village's journey from turmoil to tranquility, highlighting the resilience of its people.

The thriving weaving industry not only provides sustainable livelihoods but also showcases the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of the Rabha tribe and the state of Assam.

Mainaguri's success story stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come in conflict-hit areas across the Northeastern state.
