Serious allegations of financial misconduct have surfaced against Madhab Rajbongshi, Secretary of the Aboro Suraksha Samiti, over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the families of martyrs associated with the group's historical struggle.
As per the government’s relief package, ₹5 lakh was sanctioned for each martyr's family. However, multiple reports claim that only ₹4 lakh reached the intended beneficiaries, with the remaining ₹1 lakh per family allegedly siphoned off by Rajbongshi.
The charges were made public by Jon Das, Central Secretary of Aboro Suraksha Samiti, Assam (BTAD), during a joint meeting held with the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) at Ulubari, Bijni in Chirang district. Members of the affected martyr families also addressed journalists, voicing their grievances and demanding accountability.
Speaking at the press meet, Jon Das not only reiterated the allegations but also denounced recent statements by Madhab Rajbongshi, who claimed that the Aboro Suraksha Samiti had no formal ties with the GSP. Das firmly refuted the assertion, emphasizing that both entities maintain strong cooperation and are politically aligned.
He further reminded that the Aboro Suraksha Samiti and the GSP have already declared a joint front for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, underlining their political unity.
The review meeting brought together Aboro community members from the Thuribari, Manah-Cherfang, and Subhaijhar constituencies. Prominent figures present included Ghanashyam Das, Councilor from Dihira, Manoranjan Barman, GSP’s Chirang district president, and Kamal Pathak, President of the Aboro Suraksha Samiti, Assam (BTAD), among others.
The gathering concluded with calls for an impartial probe into the alleged embezzlement and reiterated commitment towards ensuring justice for the martyr families.
