Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi launched a day-long political outreach programme in the BTC region on Sunday, June 22. The campaign trail brought him to Srirampur in Gossaigaon Subdivision, where he interacted with constituents of the local council segment.
Gogoi was accorded a rousing reception by Congress party workers and supporters upon his arrival. At the Srirampur Block Office, the Congress leader was welcomed with vibrant Adivasi traditional performances and floral tributes, symbolizing cultural solidarity and grassroots engagement.
Addressing a public gathering, Gogoi made a strong pitch for political change in the region, asserting that the upcoming BTC election would witness a decisive contest. "This time, the Congress is prepared for a strong fight. We are committed to forming the next BTC government," he declared.
He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of centralising power, alleging that the Bodo administration is being remotely controlled from Dispur, sidelining local leadership and grassroots democracy. In contrast, he said, the previous Congress governments had empowered local leaders, ensuring regional voices were heard and respected.
Gogoi further alleged that the current administration has undermined the Bodo people's struggle and disrespected the sacrifices of Bodo martyrs by facilitating land sales to non-locals, a move he claimed runs contrary to the ethos of the Bodo movement.
The Congress leader also launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of eroding indigenous rights and manipulating governance in the BTC for political gain.
