Assam: Golakganj police detain two vehicles in crackdown on illegal stone trade

Golakganj police on December 22 detained two vehicles laden with stones at the Sonahat Land Customs Station (LCS) located within the International Trade Centre Golakganj.

Reports suggest that a group of fraudsters has been exploiting the Land Customs Station (LCS), attempting to export boulders or stones into Bangladesh using fraudulent Weigh Bridge documents.

According to insiders, Mehtabul and Mohibul, two suspects, were apprehended while attempting to use forged Dolphin Weigh Bridge documents, a practice deemed unacceptable at the Sonahat LCS.

The situation is further exacerbated by the upcoming elections in Bangladesh, limiting the number of vehicles allowed for export to thirty.

It's crucial to note that only Weigh Bridge documents issued by the Assam Mines & Minerals Development Corporation Ltd. (AMDC), situated near the Sonahat LCS, are deemed acceptable at the International Trade Centre Golakganj.

Allegedly attempting to evade substantial taxes, a few miscreants sought to exploit the situation by using fictitious documentation from the Dolphin Weigh Bridge located in Chagolia. This attempt, however, was thwarted by the police.

In response to the chaotic circumstances, Golakganj police seized two boulder-laden vehicles with registration numbers AS-01AC-0854 and AS-16C-1278 from Sonahat Land Customs Station (LCS).
