Assam: Gold jewellery, cash stolen from house in Cachar on Saptami

Thieves allegedly stole gold jewellery and cash from a house at Dighar Phulertol Part I, near Chiripul, under Lakhipur police station in Assam’s Cachar district on Saptami evening, October 17.

The house belonged to Nityaranjan Das, whose family had gone to a nearby Durga Puja pandal after locking the premises. The thieves allegedly entered through a kitchen ventilator, broke open a cupboard and fled with the valuables.

The theft was discovered when the family returned and found belongings scattered inside the house. Lakhipur police reached the spot and began an investigation. No arrests had been reported at the time of filing this report.

Local residents alleged that thefts recur in the area during Durga Puja. The affected family has urged Minister Kaushik Rai and the Lakhipur police to take steps to prevent such incidents.
