Assam: Gorkha student body leads massive protest against Dr Selix Alam in Margherita, calls for strict action

Fresh unrest gripped Margherita on Monday, February24 as members of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Tinsukia District Committee, staged a massive protest against Dr. Selix Alam, a physician at Margherita FRU. The agitation was triggered by allegations of misconduct involving a young woman.

Demonstrators marched from North Margherita Rangamancha before holding a two-hour sit-in demonstration in front of the Margherita Sub-Divisional Commissioner’s office, demanding justice for the victim’s family and strict legal action against the accused doctor. Slogans echoed through the streets as protestors called for capital punishment for Dr. Alam.

The AAGSU Tinsukia unit also urged the state government to extend one-time financial aid to the victim’s family. A memorandum addressing these demands was formally submitted to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Margherita Sub-Divisional Commissioner.

In addition to seeking punishment for Dr. Alam, the organization also demanded the withdrawal of cases filed against its members, warning of intensified agitation if their demands were ignored.
