Assam Government officials accused of fraud in housing scheme

Government officials and employees in Salbari, Assam have been accused of collecting funds under the guise of implementing government schemes.

The funds were allegedly raised for the construction of the Prime Minister's residence at Narasimhabari. Beneficiaries claim that the Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS) and engineers from the Govardhana Development block collected money for the Pradhan Mantri Griha Nirman Yojana, a scheme for constructing houses.

Mijing Basumatary, Raman Basumatary and Nimje Boro of Narsinghbari allege that the construction of the residence was not completed due to the money being siphoned off by government officials.

They were charged Rs 15,000 out of Rs 12 for a government house. Additionally, Rs 500 was charged for each GPS photo.

Allegations against these GRS and engineers have been made public, accusing them of long-standing corruption in the name of constructing the Prime Minister's Residence.
