Assam govt working to tackle price rise, says Bhupen Bora
Assam BJP leader Bhupen Bora on May 26, said the state government is concerned about rising prices and is exploring measures to control government expenditure to reduce the impact on people.
Speaking to reporters after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s reply to the Governor’s address in the Assembly, Bora said the chief minister discussed the issue of inflation in detail and warned that any prolonged conflict involving the United States and Iran could affect India and Assam economically.
He said the government is considering ways to reduce expenditure in various sectors and use the savings to help people deal with price rise.
Bora also welcomed the decision by sections of the Muslim community in Assam not to sacrifice cows during the upcoming Eid celebrations, saying it reflected respect for the culture and sentiments of other communities in the state.
He said people should continue practising their religion while also respecting Assam’s cultural traditions. Referring to the chief minister’s stand on cow protection, Bora said mutual respect among communities would strengthen social harmony and assimilation.
Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 12 years in office, Bora described his tenure as “successful” and credited him for development, peace and progress, particularly in the Northeast.
He also said the Centre should take initiatives to bring the banned militant outfit ULFA (Independent) to the peace table under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
