Assam: Grand felicitation for cricketer Uma Chetry in Bokakhat amid massive public reception
Cricketer Uma Chetry received a grand felicitation in Bokakhat, Assam on Saturday, November 8. The young sports icon, who has brought laurels to Assam after the team won the title of Women's World Cup 2025, was greeted with a massive rally that filled the town with festive enthusiasm.
Upon her arrival, Uma was escorted to the stage at the District Sports Association ground amidst the rhythmic beats of traditional 'dhol' and 'madol' (drums). Flower petals rained down as she made her way through the crowd, reflecting the people’s deep affection and pride for her achievements.
The grand felicitation ceremony was jointly organized by the Bokakhat District Sports Association, Golaghat District Administration, District Police Administration, and Bokakhat Sub-Divisional Administration.
Assam Minister Atul Bora led the proceedings by extending his heartfelt felicitations to the cricketer, commending her for being a source of inspiration for the youth of Assam.
The event also witnessed participation from the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Officer, and representatives of over a hundred local organizations and groups, all united in celebrating Uma Chetry’s contribution to sports.
The celebration not only marked Uma’s sporting excellence but also symbolized the growing recognition of women athletes from Assam making their mark on the national stage.
