Assam: Grocery shopkeeper arrested for sexually harassing minor girl in Kaliabor

In the No-Basti area of Assam's Kaliabor, authorities have apprehended a grocery shopkeeper amid accusations of harassment involving a minor on May 25. This case falls under the jurisdiction of Bagori Outpost, part of Jakhalabandha Police Station. 

The suspect, Hiren Banik, is alleged to have harassed a 14-year-old girl within his shop. Quick action by police led to his arrest following the report. 

Hiren Banik, who is married, was detained after these grave charges emerged. The incident has garnered much local attention, amplifying concerns over minors' safety in public areas. 

Authorities stress an in-depth investigation is ongoing, reaffirming their commitment to child safety.

A legal case, numbered 52/25, has been lodged against Banik. The charges include breaching Sections 74/75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alongside Section 8 of the POCSO Act.

Upon complaint receipt, officers from Bagori Outpost acted swiftly, resulting in Banik's immediate detention.
