In a significant political development ahead of the upcoming council elections, the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) and the Adivasi Suraksha Samiti held a joint meeting at Dihira in Assam’s Baksa district on Tuesday, May 6. The meeting witnessed the participation of key leaders including GSP council member Ghanshyam Das, Adivasi Suraksha Samiti General Secretary Jon Das, and a large gathering of Adivasi workers.
Speaking at the event, Yadav Das, President of the GSP Dihira Block Committee, said the objective was to consolidate forces and present a united front in the forthcoming polls. "This meeting marks a step towards electoral unity aimed at protecting the rights and interests of our people," he said.
Delivering a fiery address, Jon Das declared that the Adivasi community is now determined to deliver a resolute reply to the repeated betrayals it has endured at the hands of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
"The injustices and discrimination inflicted upon Adivasi people over the years by these parties will no longer be accepted. This time, the response will be firm and united," Das asserted.
He also launched a scathing critique against GSP leader and former MP Naba Sarania, accusing him of aligning with the BPF in contradiction to the interests of the people. Das called on Sarania to immediately disassociate from such "inconsistencies" and join hands with the grassroots movement.
"Let the future take its course, but at this critical juncture, Naba Sarania must stand shoulder to shoulder with the people," said Jon Das.
