Assam: Gust of wind wreaks havoc near Ledo Thermal Plant in Margherita, causes severe damage

Margherita found itself thrust into turmoil today as a powerful gust of wind unleashed destruction near the Ledo Thermal Plant at 5 p.m. The force of nature proved catastrophic as it toppled an 11 kV line pillar, sending it crashing down onto several shops, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.

Among the casualties of the destructive gust were the government post office, which bore the brunt of the impact, and the shop belonging to local businessman Ranbir Singh, which suffered irreparable damage.The shop incurred heavy losses as computers, laptops, printers and a plethora of vital documents fell victim to the ravaging flames.

The force of the inferno was so intense that it uprooted trees lining the nearby roadways, disrupting the flow of traffic and exacerbating the chaos wrought by the catastrophe.

As a consequence of the crisis, authorities were compelled to close the national highway to traffic, owing to the severity of the damage inflicted. This closure further compounded the challenges faced by residents and commuters, exacerbating an already dire situation.

Compounding the woes of the affected populace, Margherita struggled with a power outage lasting nearly three hours.
