Assam: Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF to take oath as Bodoland council government today

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), led by Hagrama Mohilary, is set to take oath today as the fifth Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government, marking a significant moment in the region’s politics.

The day’s events began early with Mohilary and his team paying tribute to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma at Dotma Thulungapuri at 8:30 am, followed by homage at the Bodoland Martyrs’ Memorial in Debargaon.

The main oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for 11 am at Bodofa Nagar playground, where Assam Governor Jagdish Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Manikya Debbarma are expected to attend. Ten council members will take the oath as part of the new administration.

Earlier this week, Kokrajhar witnessed a major political development when the BPF held its policy-making committee meeting at the Bodoland Guest House on October 3.

Mohilary reiterated that the party would join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) only if the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) is removed from the coalition. He stressed that political clarity must come first before any discussions on government formation.

The BPF also discussed key priorities for the new term, including issuing land pattas to people in Bodoland, reviving 16 BTC departments, and restoring full administrative powers to the council.

Today’s oath-taking ceremony signals the start of the BPF’s next tenure and sets the stage for its agenda in the Bodoland Territorial Council.
