Assam: Hagrama Mohilary’s wife Sewli Mohilary, Pramila Rani Brahma in BPF ticket battle for Kokrajhar

The race for the Kokrajhar Assembly constituency ticket from the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is gathering momentum, with Sewli Mohilary, wife of BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, and senior leader Pramila Rani Brahma emerging as key contenders ahead of the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections.

Sewli Mohilary is reportedly preparing to contest the polls from the Kokrajhar constituency and has begun reaching out to various organisations and residents to build support.

As part of her outreach, she recently visited the office of the Kokrajhar Town Merchant Association and sought the backing of its members for her candidature. The association assured its support and said it would send a recommendation letter to the party high command endorsing her name for the ticket.

Over the past few days, Sewli Mohilary has also been touring different areas of the constituency and interacting with local residents as part of her grassroots engagement.

Meanwhile, Pramila Rani Brahma, a three-time Assam cabinet minister, has also expressed interest in contesting from the same seat and has begun organising pocket meetings and outreach programmes to mobilise support.

With both leaders stepping up their activities on the ground, political observers say the contest for the BPF nomination from Kokrajhar is shaping up to be closely watched in the run-up to the Assembly elections.
