Assam: Harinaam chants fill Borjhar as Srimanta Sankardev Sangha’s Nalbari conference concludes
The Sankardev–Madhavdev Samannay Kshetra at Borjhar reverberated with the chants of Harinaam as thousands of devotees gathered for the concluding day of the 48th Nalbari District Conference of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha on Sunday, February 1.
The final day of the district conference witnessed massive participation, turning the Borjhar venue into a sea of people. The atmosphere was marked by spiritual fervour as the region remained immersed in devotional chants and religious activities dedicated to the ideals of Jagadguru Srimanta Sankardev.
A major highlight of the concluding day was a grand religious Bhagawat procession that passed through the area, drawing participation from people across communities. Hindus and Muslims joined the procession together, reflecting the inclusive and egalitarian philosophy propagated by Srimanta Sankardev. Several cultural troupes representing diverse traditions also took part, adding to the vibrant and harmonious display.
The Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, established to uphold and spread the religion, philosophy and cultural legacy of the 15th-century Vaishnavite saint-reformer, has long played a pivotal role in Assam’s spiritual and social landscape. The district conference reaffirmed its commitment to these ideals through collective prayer, cultural expression and community participation.
Following the religious procession, an open public meeting was held at the Sankardev–Madhavdev Samannay Kshetra, marking the formal conclusion of the three-day district conference.
