“Assam has transformed beyond fear”: Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlights state’s growth trajectory

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Assam has undergone a visible transformation over the years, highlighting improvements in security, infrastructure, and emerging industrial potential, including its prospects as a semiconductor hub.

Speaking during his visit to the state, Chouhan recalled that during an earlier parliamentary committee visit, several areas in Assam were inaccessible due to prevailing security concerns. He stated that the “atmosphere of fear” that once restricted movement has now significantly receded, reflecting what he described as a broader change in the state’s overall situation.

The Union Minister pointed to rapid developments in connectivity, noting that Assam has witnessed substantial progress in infrastructure in recent years. He added that the state’s emergence as a potential semiconductor hub marks a shift that “no one could have imagined” in the past, underscoring what he framed as a new phase of economic and technological growth.

Chouhan also launched a political attack on the Congress, alleging that past decisions and governance approaches had adversely affected Assam. Referring to the period around the Partition, he claimed that there had been a proposal to hand over Assam to Pakistan, which was prevented by the intervention of Assam’s first Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi.

He further criticised former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, alleging that Assam’s concerns were not adequately addressed during that period. The Union Minister also raised the issue of illegal infiltration, claiming that it had contributed to insecurity and posed challenges to the state’s identity and social fabric
