Assam: Headmaster missing since April, Sribhumi school faces academic standstill

A cloud of uncertainty hangs over 175 No. Dargarbond Primary School in the Ramkrishnanagar education block of Sribhumi district, as Headmaster Pikulu Das has been missing since April 4. His unexplained disappearance has disrupted normal functioning at the school, leaving both students and parents deeply concerned.

According to the school management committee, Das’s prolonged absence has paralyzed academic activities. With more than 150 students currently enrolled, only two teachers remain to handle the entire academic workload. The resulting strain on resources has raised serious questions about the school's ability to deliver quality education.

In a further twist, Das is alleged to have unethically issued transfer certificates to 15–16 students from private institutions in an attempt to enroll them in the government-run school. However, due to the absence of mandatory DISE codes and PEN numbers, those students have not been able to secure admission, leaving their education in limbo.

Sources claim that the concerned parents, after failing to secure clarity on the admission process, confronted Das over the irregularities. Shortly thereafter, he reportedly vanished and has not returned to his post since.

Repeated attempts by the school authorities and parents to contact officials from the education department have gone unanswered. The lack of response has only deepened the sense of frustration and anxiety within the community.

The school’s management committee and aggrieved guardians have now called upon the district administration to intervene and initiate appropriate action to restore normalcy and ensure accountability.
