Assam health department launches investigation into alleged malpractice at Barpeta Road FRU

The Health Department of Barpeta has launched a comprehensive investigation into allegations of improper treatment and unauthorized patient transfers at Barpeta Road F R U (First Referral Unit). The inquiry, spearheaded by Joint Secretary Indrani Laskar of the state Health and Family Welfare Department, is focusing on the actions of two doctors, Dr. Arup Kalita and Dr. Konkan Goswami.

The probe was initiated following complaints from seven party organizations and several distressed families, who have accused the physicians of transferring patients from the government hospital to a nursing home in Barpeta Road. One specific case highlighted involves Morjina Khatun, a pregnant woman from Safakamar village, who allegedly underwent a maternity surgery and suffered from erroneous post-surgery treatment, resulting in the closure of her urinary tract.

The aggrieved parties, including All Koch Rajbanshi Students' Union, All Assam Adivasi Students' Union, Koch Rajbongshi Development Council, All Assam Sutradhar Students' Union, and Akhil Hindiwasi Parishad, lodged formal complaints with the Health Minister, prompting an immediate inquiry.

Joint Secretary Indrani Laskar led a team that meticulously gathered testimonies from seven gang organizations and the affected families at Barpeta Awart Bhawan. The investigation aims to uncover the truth behind the serious allegations against Dr. Arup Kalita and Dr. Konkan Goswami.

The urgency of the situation was highlighted by the deteriorating health of Morjina Khatun, whose urinary tract has reportedly been closed for three months. Despite filing an FIR at Barpeta Road police station, the victim's family expresses frustration over the lack of action by the police.
