Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal made a strong pitch for BJP and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) during a public rally in Dharmasala, just days ahead of the panchayat elections scheduled for May 7.
Addressing a crowd, Singhal urged voters to back candidates who prioritise development and unity. “Whether Hindu or Muslim, everyone must vote for BJP and AGP,” he told the gathering, stressing inclusive governance as a core party value.
He criticised the Congress party for what he described as a legacy of division and neglect. “Don’t get diverted by Congress. Give your vote to BJP candidates — they will work for you,” he said, accusing the opposition of failing both majority and minority communities during its tenure.
Singhal used the rally to showcase the BJP’s developmental agenda, announcing plans to roll out an additional 3,000 Arunodaya schemes in the region. He also highlighted the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge project as a symbol of equitable infrastructure. “Both Hindus and Muslims will use this bridge — it is for everyone,” he said.
In a pointed comment aimed at the opposition, Singhal claimed, “If a Congress candidate wins, he will join the BJP within three days. So why not vote for the BJP directly?”
The minister framed the upcoming elections as a referendum on progress and appealed for unity across religious and community lines. “To drive the Chief Minister’s vision of development forward, we need the blessings and support of everyone in the state,” he said.
Speaking to journalists after the event, Singhal added, “The people will choose their representatives by looking at the developmental work we have already done.”
