The South Salmara-Mankachar district police have confiscated the largest heroin consignment in the region's history. The operation, based on secret intelligence, was led by Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Pratap Das, Deputy SP Anshul Sarma, the Officer-in-Charge of Mankachar Police Station, and other officials. On the night of January 21, 2025, they raided a residence in Kathalbari, under Mankachar PS.
The raid uncovered 252 grams of heroin, hidden in 23 soap cases and concealed in a ceiling compartment of a house owned by Nur Islam (36). The heroin, estimated to be worth Rs 2 crore in the black market, was found wrapped in black plastic bags and stored in a carton.
While Mulukjan Nessa (30), the wife of Nur Islam, was apprehended on-site, her husband managed to evade capture. Authorities have initiated a search operation to locate him. In addition to the drugs, police seized two smartphones and documents belonging to Nur Islam.
The seizure was thoroughly documented via videography in the presence of independent witnesses. A formal FIR has been filed under Mankachar PS GDE No. 21 (Dated: 21-01-2025), and further legal action is underway. This operation highlights the police's continued commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region.
