Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma and Modi's guarantee are like 'sour mangoes in the market,' says Congress leader

In a scathing critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, Congress leader Debabrata Saikia lambasted the credibility of political guarantees, pointing to Sarma's past remarks comparing Rajiv Bhawan to the sanctity of the Ram Temple. Debabrata Saikia further stated his skepticism, likening guarantees by Himanta Biswa Sarma and Narendra Modi to "sour mangoes in the market."

Speaking on March 28, Saikia castigated the BJP's track record asserting that the promises made by the party, including those by Sarma himself, have failed to materialize. "Where are the 'good days' promised by the BJP? Nobody should value or give importance to BJP's guarantees, nor should they attach significance to Himanta Biswa Sarma's assurances," Saikia said.

Saikia recalled a moment when Sarma, then in the Congress, responded to a query about joining the BJP, stating that Rajiv Bhawan, the Congress headquarters, was as pure as the Ram Temple, signifying one cannot abandon such a sacred place. "Now, the irony is apparent as both Himanta Biswa Sarma and Debanshu Das find themselves within the BJP fold," Saikia said questioning the credibility of Sarma's assurances and BJP's pledges.

Reacting to media inquiries, Saikia expressed confidence in Gaurav Gogoi's electoral prospects from the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency. He likened BJP, Modi and Sarma's guarantees to "sour mangoes in the market," .

Furthermore, Saikia highlighted the irony of Congress leaders and MLAs accused of corruption by the BJP being embraced by the ruling party. He alleged that the BJP's actions did not align with its rhetoric against corruption, exposing what he deemed as "blackmailing politics" aimed at silencing dissent against BJP's policies, including those deemed anti-Assam.
