Assam hosts inaugural Northeast Social Work Conclave for grassroots transformation
The inaugural Northeast Social Work Conclave 2025 brought together hundreds of social work professionals, students and policymakers at Gauhati University on March 18, coinciding with International Social Work Day.
Organised by the Indian Awaz Foundation in collaboration with the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Government, the event addressed critical issues including professional education in social work and the role of Corporate Social Responsibility in sustainable development across the Northeast.
BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro delivered the keynote address, emphasising social work's essential role in nation-building.
"Social workers are the backbone of grassroots transformation," Boro told attendees. "Their dedication creates the foundation for an equitable and self-reliant society."
BTR Executive Member Wilson Hasda highlighted the persistent gap between policy formation and implementation at the community level, calling for stronger partnerships between government agencies and social sector organisations.
The conclave featured panel discussions on professional social work education, strategic CSR investments in Northeast India, and innovative approaches to community development.
Nazim Ahmed, Founder of Indian Awaz Foundation, emphasised the collaborative nature of the event. "This conclave is a reflection of the power of collective action in bringing real impact," Ahmed said.
A "Pledge Wall" activity became a focal point when Boro inscribed the message: "Only love and peace can protect the world," inspiring attendees to commit to specific actions in their communities.
