Assam hosts National poets' conference with 120+ participants

The two-day National Poets' Conference, organized by Kavya Dhoni Assam, kicked off at Hotel SG Habitat in Ledo, under the Margherita subdivision of Tinsukia district, bringing together over 120 poets, poetesses, and litterateurs from across India, including Assam.

Inaugurated by noted litterateur and Sahitya Akademi Award recipient Dr. Jayanta Madhab Borah, the event also saw the presence of K. Mere, General Manager of North Eastern Coal Fields (NEC), Coal India Ltd, Margherita, who attended as the chief guest.

Several prestigious awards were presented during the conference. Dr. Kiriti Sen Gupta from Kolkata and Nilim Kumar from Assam received the Kavya Dhoni 2024 Awards, while Riju Moni Saikia Tamuli was honored with the Kavya Dhoni Abritti Sourav Award. Additionally, Dr. Chitrajit Saikia received the Kavya Dhoni Critic Award, and Sabarjit Sarkar was recognized with the Kavya Dhoni Coordinator Award.

The conference also saw the unveiling of five new books, with renowned poet Pranab Kumar Barma presenting the Young Poet Awards to four emerging talents from Assam.

Among the prominent attendees were Dr. Subodh Sarkar (Kolkata), international poet Pradeep Biswal (Bhubaneswar), poet Nilim Kumar, Mohan Moran (President of Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha), and veteran journalist Rana Jyoti Neog. Jagat Changmai, eminent litterateur, painter, and other distinguished resource persons also graced the occasion.

The conference provided a significant platform for poets to share their literary work and engage in discussions on poetry and literature, fostering connections across the literary community.
