Assam: Illegal timber smuggling foiled in Kaziranga's Bagori range, truck seized

In a significant crackdown on illegal timber smuggling, forest officials from the Bagori Range of Kaziranga National Park seized a truck loaded with smuggled timber during a late-night operation on National Highway 37.

According to sources, the timber was being transported illegally from Karbi Anglong district and was intercepted by the patrolling team during a routine surveillance drive.

The truck, bearing registration number AS12CC3487, was found to be carrying timber without proper documentation.

Forest officials acted swiftly to detain the vehicle and took the driver into custody for questioning.

The seizure is believed to be part of a larger network involved in the illegal timber trade, which poses a serious threat to the region’s rich biodiversity and forest cover.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to trace the origins of the timber and identify others involved in the smuggling operation.
