Assam: IMA Margherita branch withdraws services in protest against Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Margherita branch has declared the withdrawal of services at all private and PSU sector hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics under Margherita subdivision in Tinsukia. The protest, which began on Saturday at 6:00 a.m. and will continue until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, affects outpatient departments (OPD) and routine operations (OT), though emergency services remain available.

Dr. Bringeswar Sharma, Chief Medical Superintendent of Central Hospital NEC CIL Margherita, announced the decision, stating that the move was in response to the recent brutal rape and murder a second-year student at R.G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata, on August 9. Dr. Sharma condemned the attack on doctors and the vandalism of the college on August 15, which occurred when doctors organized a peaceful rally in Kolkata.
