Assam: Income Tax department seizes truck in major GST evasion operation at Srirampur

The Income Tax Department seized a truck suspected of involvement in GST evasion during a targeted raid in Srirampur. The operation, carried out by a special team, intercepted a vehicle transporting tobacco (Gutkha) worth over Rs 1 crore.

According to officials, the seized truck was en route from Delhi to Guwahati when it was intercepted. The truck, bearing registration number NL01 N6619, was reportedly carrying the high-value consignment without proper GST documentation.

The driver, identified as Yasir Khan, has been detained for questioning. Preliminary findings suggest that this raid is linked to a larger investigation into a network suspected of evading taxes through illicit transportation of goods across state lines.

Authorities stated that the vehicle and goods are now in custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the entire supply chain and identify other potential offenders.
