Assam: Incomplete Model Anganwadi Centre leaves children without dedicated learning facility in Amoni
The construction of a Model Anganwadi Centre in Amoni village, recently brought under the Kaliabor Assembly constituency, has remained incomplete nearly three years after work began, leaving children without access to a dedicated facility for early education and related activities.
Construction of the Amlakhi No. 4-A Model Anganwadi Centre started in 2023, but the project is yet to be completed. Several essential components, including portions of the walls, roofing, doors and windows, kitchen and toilet, remain unfinished.
With the construction stalled for a prolonged period, vegetation and bushes have grown around and inside the premises, further rendering the facility unusable.
In the absence of a functional Anganwadi centre, the local Anganwadi worker has been conducting classes for children from her small residence. The arrangement has limited the children’s access to a proper learning environment and facilities for play and other activities.
The delay has also prompted questions among local residents over the implementation of the project and the utilisation of funds sanctioned for the construction of the centre.
Residents have sought details of the funds allocated for the project and questioned why the construction has remained incomplete since work began in 2023. They have also sought to know whether the concerned authorities have taken any action against the contractor for failing to complete the work.
The residents have urged the government and the concerned department to expedite the remaining construction work, ensure completion of all essential facilities and make the centre functional for children at the earliest.
They have also sought clarity on when the Amlakhi No. 4-A Model Anganwadi Centre will be completed and opened for the local community.
