Assam: Injured elephant roams Numaligarh in search of food amid rising conflicts

An injured wild elephant was spotted roaming human settlements in Numaligarh’s Morongi Mouza area, raising concerns among locals about its condition and the ongoing human-elephant conflict.

 

The elephant, with visible injuries on its back, was found wandering the rice fields of Morongi since nightfall, causing destruction to crops.

 

Despite the evident injury, reportedly no medical attention has been provided to the animal, and the forest department has not taken action.

 

Herd of elephants continues to roam the area, including Rongbong 4, causing distress among residents. Locals fear the elephant’s condition could worsen without immediate care.

 

In a similar human-animal conflict, residents of Assam’s Bihguri region, frustrated with persistent elephant incursions and the forest department’s inaction, blocked National Highway 15 late Thursday night.

 

The two-hour blockade near Tezpur followed a month of crop destruction by wild elephants across Bihguri, Jarnai, and Tinkharia. Local residents accused forest officials of failing to address the growing human-wildlife conflict.
