Transport enforcement authorities in Assam's Margherita are intensifying safety measures ahead of Durga Puja, focusing on helmet use and road safety.
Officials at district checkpoints are inspecting vehicles ranging from motorcycles to heavy trucks to ensure compliance with transport regulations. Those found without proper documentation face fines, but enforcement officials stress that safety awareness remains the priority.
On September 27, near Satsang Vihar on the outskirts of Margherita, bikers not wearing helmets were provided with helmets as part of a campaign to reduce accidents during the festive season. Enforcement officers emphasised that life is a “priceless asset” and urged riders to adopt safer practices rather than merely avoiding fines.
The Margherita Excise Department has also joined the campaign, warning drivers against operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol and calling for heightened vigilance on roads.
Authorities said the combined efforts aim to make roads safer for both motorists and pedestrians during the high-traffic festival period.
