Voicing strong criticism against alleged targeted eviction drives in Assam, the Jamaat Ulama Council organized an awareness meeting at Bhatau Pukhuri in Baksa, drawing public attention to what it described as discriminatory actions under the BJP-led state government.
During the meeting, speakers condemned the state’s ongoing eviction initiatives, claiming they disproportionately affect a specific community. The Council termed the actions as unjust and called for an immediate halt to such measures.
The organizers emphasized that as long as the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) remains in power in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), forced eviction drives would not be allowed. They reiterated their support for the current regional administration, asserting that it has shown restraint and inclusiveness in governance.
Describing the gathering as part of a broader initiative, the Council stated that its primary objective is to foster social cohesion and safeguard the community’s socio-political rights amid growing concerns about marginalization.
Looking toward the 2025 BTR elections, the Jamaat Ulama Council expressed a strong commitment to ensuring a majority win for the UPPL, citing the importance of continuity in leadership and political stability in the region.
The speakers also lauded the leadership of BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, crediting his government with fostering an atmosphere of peace and communal harmony across the BTR since coming to power.
