In a significant crackdown on narcotics, Jakhalabandha police on Tuesday evening apprehended two suspected drug suppliers from the heart of Jakhalabandha town in Kaliabor. The arrests were made following a strategic operation based on a confidential tip-off.
One of the accused, Mohammad Alimuddin, allegedly transported a consignment of illegal drugs into Jakhalabandha posing as a passenger in a travel vehicle. Upon receiving credible intelligence about the smuggling attempt, police personnel swiftly moved in and detained Alimuddin with the contraband.
Further investigation revealed that Alimuddin intended to deliver the drugs to another individual, Nur Islam. Acting promptly, the police traced and arrested Nur Islam as well. He was reportedly in possession of a portion of the illicit substances at the time of arrest.
According to sources, Nur Islam is a resident of Nojan area under the Jakhalabandha Police Station, while Mohammad Alimuddin hails from Harmoti, within the jurisdiction of the Jakhalabandha police outpost.
The police have confirmed that both suspects are currently under interrogation, and further investigations are underway to uncover the extent of the drug network operating in the region.
Authorities have lauded the swift action of the local police team and reiterated their commitment to curbing the rising threat of drug trafficking in Assam’s semi-urban and rural areas.
