Assam: Kaliabor residents catch two drug peddlers red-handed, dealer escapes

In a bold act of community vigilance, residents of Baruachuk village in Kaliabor apprehended two suspected drug peddlers who had allegedly come to purchase narcotics from a local dealer.

The two youths, identified as Sahil and Javed Ali, were caught red-handed by the villagers while attempting to buy drugs from a man named Samiran Saikia.

Acting swiftly, the locals not only detained the suspects but also surrounded Saikia’s residence in an effort to stop the illegal trade in their neighborhood.

Following the incident, the villagers handed over Sahil and Javed Ali to the Kaliabor police. However, by the time authorities reached the scene, Samiran Saikia had already fled the area, evading arrest.

The incident has sparked fresh concerns about the growing drug menace in the region. Locals are now demanding stronger police action and sustained efforts to dismantle the network of drug traffickers operating in and around Kaliabor.
