Assam: Kaliabor to observe Zubeen Garg’s birth anniversary as ‘Jatiya Swabhiman Divas’
Kaliabor is gearing up for an elaborate observance of late music icon Zubeen Garg’s 53rd birth anniversary, which will be marked as “Jatiya Swabhiman Divas.” The celebration, being organised for the first time in the maestro’s absence, has drawn statewide participation and emotional resonance among fans and cultural bodies.
Under the coordination of local MLA and Minister Keshab Mahanta, and with the support of 122 national organisations, the commemoration will be held at Kuwaritola in Kaliabor. Residents from across Assam are expected to join the tribute to the legendary singer, who is revered as a guiding star of the state's musical landscape.
As part of the event, 4,000 women will jointly perform dihanam, while more than 1,000 artists will render the song “Mayabini” in multiple languages. Additionally, thousands of musicians will pay homage to the late artist by playing traditional instruments.
To honour Zubeen Garg’s unparalleled contribution in taking Assamese music to the global stage, various organisations and institutions will plant 53 Nahor saplings, symbolising each year of his life. Preparations at the venue are currently in full swing.
