Assam: Kamrup DC visits landslide site, orders rock blasting to reopen Boko–Lumpi road

In response to the ongoing disruption caused by a recent landslide, Kamrup District Deputy Commissioner Dev Kumar Mishra visited the Boko–Upper Lumpi Road, where a massive boulder has blocked vehicular movement since July 25.

During his inspection, the Deputy Commissioner announced that the obstruction will be cleared through controlled rock blasting, and the district administration is taking urgent steps to restore connectivity at the earliest.

The landslide, which occurred on Saturday evening, has led to a complete shutdown of the vital road, cutting off essential transport routes for residents of the broader Lumpi region. The blockage has sparked widespread concern among locals, who depend heavily on this stretch for daily travel, emergency services, and economic activities.

DC Mishra, while addressing local officials and affected residents at the site, assured that technical teams have been mobilized and safety protocols will be strictly followed during the blasting operation. “Clearing the road is a top priority, and necessary measures are being undertaken promptly,” he said.

"We have come here to check on the situation at the landslide hit Boko-Lumpi road near Assam-Meghalaya border. The route is closed as massive rocks rolled down following landslide has blocked the entire route, causing massive trouble for commuters. This one is the only route for several villagers staying along the Assam-Meghalaya border. If you see, people are able to use the route somehow while passing through the area on foot, but all forms of vehicular movement is currently shut", said DC Mishra.

The administration is expected to commence blasting operations shortly, following geological assessments and safety clearances.
