Assam: Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council tables Rs 1,678.55 crore Budget for 2026–27

The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on Monday, August 3,  tabled a Rs 1,678.55 crore Budget for the financial year 2026–27, with a focus on infrastructure development, education, sports and culture across Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts of Assam.
 

The Budget Session of the Council commenced in Diphu and will continue till August 4.
 

Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang presented the Budget during the House proceedings chaired by KAAC Speaker Raju Tisso. The Budget, amounting to ₹1,678 crore, 55 lakh and 11 thousand under the State Own Priority Development (SOPD) scheme, outlines the Council's development priorities for the coming financial year.
 

According to Ronghang, the Budget aims to accelerate the overall development of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, with major allocations proposed for infrastructure projects, educational institutions, sports facilities and cultural development.
 

The Budget received unanimous support from all members during the opposition-free session, allowing it to be tabled without any objections.
 

Speaking to reporters after the session, Ronghang said no cuts had been made to the Budget and expressed confidence that the proposed allocations would help strengthen development initiatives across the autonomous council area.
 

He also said the Council has requested the Assam government to enhance the budgetary allocation for the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council to enable it to undertake additional development projects in the region.
 

The two-day Budget Session is expected to deliberate on the Council's financial proposals and development agenda before concluding on August 4.
