A hotel in Cheragi area of Karimganj district of Assam has been sealed by the administration after customers accused the hotel staff of serving beef in place of chicken.
The incident occurred at the Hindustan Hotel & Restaurant, triggering outrage and prompting swift action from the district administration. The hotel has now been sealed, and four individuals suspected to be involved in the matter have been detained by authorities.
The incident came to public attention when a young customer, identified as Kaison, stopped at the roadside hotel on his way to Ratabari for a meal. According to Kaison's account, he ordered a chicken dish; however, upon consuming the food, he suspected that the meat served was not chicken but beef. Disturbed by the possible breach of religious sentiments, Kaison lodged a formal complaint at the Patharkandi police station.
The allegations sparked a prompt investigation by law enforcement, leading to the detention of four individuals associated with the hotel. The suspects, identified as Alif Hussain, Riyaz Uddin, Selim Ahmed, and Hasan Ahmed, are currently being questioned by the authorities to ascertain the extent of their involvement in the purported misrepresentation of food items.
Following the incident, the district administration took decisive action by sealing the establishment to prevent any further operations. The case has raised concerns among the local community, especially regarding the authenticity and quality of food served in restaurants. Police are conducting a thorough probe to determine whether this incident was an isolated case or part of a larger malpractice within the hotel's operations.
