Assam: Koch-Rajbanshi organization demands arrest of former AIUDF MLA in Dhubri

The Koch-Rajbanshi organization, All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRASU), Dhubri, Assam has intensified its demand for the immediate arrest of former All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Rasul Hoque alias Bahadur following serious allegations of extortion and threats.

The group warned that the district could face unrest if swift action is not taken.

At a press conference in Gauripur, AKRASU leaders alleged that Rasul Hoque had demanded Rs 1 lakh from Koch Autonomous Council (KAC) member Uttam Kumar Pradhan in the name of an unidentified Islamic organisation.

Additionally, Hoque allegedly issued death threats to Pradhan over a phone call from the number 9854367926.

In response, Pradhan filed an FIR at Gauripur Police Station, leading to the registration of Case No. 59/25 under Sections 308(4)/351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), both of which are non-bailable offenses.

The group has issued a seven-day ultimatum for Hoque’s arrest, warning that Dhubri district will face a shutdown if no action is taken.

AKRASU leader Chandan Roy further alleged that Hoque may have connections with banned Islamic organizations, raising concerns about security in the region.

They have also warned of a district-wide shutdown if authorities fail to act. Roy emphasised that any harm to a Koch-Rajbanshi leader would escalate tensions in Dhubri, bringing "unrest" to the district.
